Fifth stroke in 没

Lurks   January 3rd, 2011 9:28p.m.

Has the fifth stroke in 没 become more difficult? I'm getting constant fail with it.

没字符的第五笔划是不是更难写得?我一直写得错了。

I fail on that same stroke too - I just give myself the tick for that one each time...I get the same prob with 心, and any other character with that component, and a few other components too.

I have been very strict with giving myself an x for characters that I would not have known if Skritter didnt help me place the strokes - so i figure it is ok to mark myself correct for the ones I do know but the stroke is just not registering as correct...

Cheers,
Donna

I used to have problems with that stroke too until I started moving the cursor to the right, sharply down and sharply to the right again (all in one stroke of course). like this: -|_

That one gets me too. I usually squeeze the angle together so that it's really pointy, almost like an upside down 'v'. If you draw it as shown, it doesn't seem to get recognized.

The little sideways '<'s in characters like 經 always get me too, especially the third one.

I can confirm the problem as well ;)

I guess my point is that this is new. It was never a problem before.

Eric, yeah I'm totally willing to accept I've just got a lazy way of doing it based on how it previously seemed to work.

On the other hand even slowly and deliberately drawing it seems to fail more often than not.

I've noticed this too, although I haven't changed anything with it recently. I'll investigate soon and see what might have happened with it.

I think I've nailed it. It seems to insist that the fifth stroke curves to the left before coming out. Straight down is not good enough. I literally sat there for 2 minutes scribbling the same thing and it just would not pick it up until I accidentally moved to the left a bit on the down stroke.

i always have that problem... but i let myself get away with it, because when i write 没 by hand everyone seems to get it. :P

I've tried some more tweaks and I think I've improved it. Have another try and let me know whether it seems better now than before or whether further re-education is required for this bad boy.
