Forgetting really easy characters???

DaXia   March 1st, 2011 4:46a.m.

This ever happened to anyone else? Like when you have been sitting with skritter for like 30 something minutes writing characters, and a really easy character like 急 pops up (well the pinyin and the translation pops up, not the char), but you cant instantly remember how to write it, and just sit there like an idiot? And finally you have to press show, and then feel really stupid.

atdlouis   March 1st, 2011 6:04a.m.

Just the other day I forgot how to write 少. Don't beat yourself up. Once you start forgetting characters, you should feel good. You're starting to become just like a native speaker.

Happens to me too. I think the simplest characters are often the easiest to forget as they can look quite similar. Complicated characters may have some crazy stroke numbers but at least have more structure to hold on to.

Yes, all the time. @atdlouis the other day I also forgot 少.

jcdoss   March 1st, 2011 10:41a.m.

Chalk me in... I forget easy stuff sometimes and occasionally so thoroughly that I feel like I'm starting over.

Forgetting and then re-remembering is a very important part of learning. It's nothing to stress about.

dfoxworthy   March 1st, 2011 11:33a.m.

The easier ones are often the hardest since there is little to remember them by. 夫 耒 失 often get me especially since they come up rarely in my skritter.

dfoxworthy   March 1st, 2011 11:37a.m.

Some how the characters did get posted. I had fu 夫 - lei 耒 - shi 失 Also, 支攴攵夊夂 sometimes throw me off big time.

dfoxworthy   March 1st, 2011 11:38a.m.

Anyone else have trouble posting characters?

jww1066   March 1st, 2011 11:43a.m.

@dfoxworthy you don't see characters in your comments? I see the characters fine in your comments.

As long as it's not "一" - I'm calm with that :)

Yes I can remember complicated characters that I rarely write like 徽 hui1 but I keep forgetting stuff like 便 / 使 :)
