I just looked over the Facts Page (link below for others) and I'd like to know if both Hiragana and Katakana writing will be supported in the future. I remember a while back that this came up, and the answer was "no", but it says "we are augmenting our stroke recognition system to allow for actual writing practice of these characters" on the Facts Page.

So I'm a little excited,hoping that sometime in the near future I can practice those symbols on Skritter, because they are tough to memorize and master !!

The ability to write out a word in full would be the single best improvement the Japanese side could ever get.

For Chinese studiers who don't know--
if we have the writing "霜枯れ時" for instance, the two kanji would be called for, then it skips the kana "れ", and goes on to the last kanji.

This is the perfect formula to forget kana placement.

Many words have kana suffixes that change, for instance:

見る　== To see, to look
見なす == To consider, to deem as
見すてる == To abandon

Even if you could just grade yourself on it-- without ANY stroke recognition, this would be a major improvement.

Now katakana words must also be studied in flashcard form, without the ability to write them of course.

Not having kana is a huge disadvantage.

Would also love to see support for handwritten kana.

Yes, Scott is going to try to adapt another handwriting recognizer system to sub in for the hiragana recognition. It will likely be a while until he gets to that project, though.

@Nick That's awesome!! I'm sure a lot of people would benefit from it.

For some reason, remembering Hiragana and Katakana for the LONG TERM is harder for me than characters/kanji. So this would definitely be a great addition to Skritter.
