Tiny, tiny error in the character database

Mandarinboy   August 13th, 2010 9:21a.m.

I do think there is a very small error in the character database. I use the cram session to study characters with some Chinese children in China and added the past tense particle, le. When doing that it ends up double:

了 了 le5, liao3, liao4 (particle for a new situation or completed action), finish; understand; clear, observe
了 了 le5, liao3, liao4 (particle for a new situation or completed action), finish; understand; clear,

The only difference between first and second row is that second row do now have the "observe" translation.
This is only visible on the cram page and not when you do cram the characters.

Here the first is the simplified version (which covers both 了 and 瞭) and the second is one of the traditional versions (which has a definition missing 瞭). What it's trying to do is show that you've chosen 了 as the traditional version of the character you put in (了) instead of 瞭. A bit confusing!
